Yacht transport by truck
We have being part of transporting yachts by truck since 1987 and the first was from Egå ind Denmark to Santander in North Spain. Later is was a lot of transports between North Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. The biggest advantage by moving boats by truck is the speed and freedom of timing and place. The boat can be moved any time when the transport have a available truck. The disadvantage by larger sailing yachts and motorboats is, that tings like mast, keel, rudder, radar, antenna etc. has to be taken of. Some of the best truck transport companies has own craftsmen to do this in both ends of the transport. So you can get a complete inclusive package, or do some parts yourself. Yacht transport by cargo ship
If you need to get your boat moved over the a ocean a transport by cargo ship is a gentle way, also between north and south Europe. On shorter coastal distances is can be more expensive than by truck, but the huge advantage is, that nothing have to taken of boat. A disadvantage is, that you are depending of the cargo ships pick-up and drop-of locations and their sailing plan around Europe or across the Atlantics. Yacht transport by sea
Many people have the perception that sailing a boat from A to B is for free with sailboats, while it is expensive with motorboats. The last with motorboats is quite right when you calculate fuel, 2 x engine service and lost value due to engine hours in the trip.
If you move a sailboat by yourself as a holiday with no time limits, then it theoretically can be quite cheap, however you still have to include, for example, 3000 nautical miles in your sails lifespan, depending the route plus a lot of harbour fees while waiting for the next good weather window. But if you don’t have the time and need someone to sail your boat, then the realities is much different.
A good transport crew has normally a price per nautical miles and a daily price for layover days due to bad weather conditions and they don’t have all the time in the world. That means, that every time the weather isn’t too ruff, they are under way and thats normally still a bit windy or no wind at all. In average then time limited transports sailing 80% motoring which cost fuel, 2 x engine service, lost of value and risks of brake downs. A trip from north Europe to the Mediterranean Sea can be more than 400 hours for engine hours which are more than many use their engine in 5-10 years.
We moved the first boats by sea for 40 years ago and have visit more than 50 ports alone between Denmark and Gibraltar and seen so many boats being helped in port by rescue boats due to engine failures and they often had to stay for weeks witing for spare parts to solve their problems. Sometimes the transport crew runs out of time or its too expensive to have them waiting. So a new transport crew has to be arranged when they have available time. So a boat stranded for a months or two is not unusual and the harbour fee’s are ticking.
We offer to move your motor yacht or sailing yacht as it is our holiday. That means only gentle comfortable sailing under optimal weather conditions. You can whish a period, but we set the start date and with no end date limitations. You pay the agreed price per nautical miles and harbour fees, but layovers are without crew costs. We have the Danish Y1 which are the Danish Yacht Master Ocean education up to 24 meter boats and 1000 HP. Beside that, then I the owner of MS Yacht is also boat builder and have also worked with both engines and electric. So any problems along the way will often be resolved without the use of expensive foreign companies.
